The Department of Surgery is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive climate for all faculty, staff, and trainees. Diversity in our Department will allow for a more innovative, collaborative, and productive group that will expand our influence and lead to improvements in education, research, and clinical care. We recognize that unique challenges exist for ethnic, gender, and social minorities, and we will advocate for increased representation and equal opportunities across all identities. As surgical leaders, it is our responsibility to ensure that increased diversity, equity, and inclusion are high priorities both internal and external to our Department.
The Department of Surgery will work closely with the Office for Health Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (OHEDI) which is overseen by the division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion within the University of Utah Health (UUH).
