Mechanical Cardiac Support and Cardiac Transplantation Fellowship
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Utah is offering a one-year clinical fellowship in mechanical cardiac support and cardiac transplantation. This advanced, one year fellowship is designed to develop proficiency in surgical implantation and medical management of mechanical circulatory devices and heart and lung transplants.
During this fellowship, the fellow will be involved in the patient selection, preoperative optimization of patients, implantation of devices, heart and lung transplantation, and postoperative care and management of patients. Additionally, fellows participate in the evaluation of donor hearts and lungs and travel for donor organ procurement.
Academically, fellows will be involved in weekly conferences, transplant meetings, multidisciplinary rounds, and journal club. Funding will be available for participation in the annual ISHLT meeting and presentation of clinical research.
PROGRAM APPLICATION
Candidates must either be certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, be ABTS Board eligible, or have completed the international equivalent. In addition, the candidate must either be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Utah (must have passed all USMLEs, COMLEX, or LMCCs and completed two years of ACGME accredited residency training) or be eligible for a license exemption.
Internationally trained physicians must hold valid ECFMG certification. If not a US citizen, please be aware a J-1 Visa is required.
