Our Mission
Quality, timely high-value clinical care reflects the quality of the institution to our two most important customers: our patients and our referring primary care physicians. This should be the cornerstone of quality medical care that forms the basis for our health care system. Members of the team constantly identify ways to improve referrals, patient flow, communication with referring physicians and surgery scheduling. Our section's mission is to provide the efficiency of a community practice with the quality of care delivered by University of Utah Health. Our group of five surgeons, one PA, nurses and medical assistants provides clinical services at four University sites: University Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, Farmington Health Center and South Jordan Health Center, as well as the George Wahlen Salt Lake City VA Hospital. We have grown Community General Surgery from the ground-up to a busy clinical service. At our U sites, we have minimal patient waiting times for clinic visits and surgery, among the best in the entire system. Our Exceptional Patient Experience scores have been in the top 10% in the nation, and frequently in the top 1%. Our group of surgeons have received numerous positive patient comments that are published internally. We see patients in person and virtually, and provide e-consults to primary care physicians through our EMR.
