Dr. Catherine deVries and Juan Carlos Negrette presented their jointly prepared research at the 43rd IHF World Hospital Congress in Muscat, Oman on the theme of “Health Investment for Prosperity”. Ministers of Health and health officials present for the event were newly engaged by concepts flipping surgical operating theaters from cost-centers to revenue sources by paying attention to the management aspect, reinforcing quality improvement and the linkages to other subsystems which form the surgical eco-system as key elements to the improvement surgical capacity in LMICs. Their presentation was titled “Improving managerial capacity and practices to strengthen surgical systems for equitable access to quality services”. Dr. Catherine deVries serves as Associate Director at the Center for Global Surgery, and Mr. Juan Carlos Negrette directs the Office of Global Health for University of Utah Health.
