Celebrating the Perfusion Lab & Honoring Don Kimble

The University of Utah Health Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is proud to announce a recent grant award from the Hearst Foundations to support the work of Drs. Adil Husain, Eric Griffiths, and Aaron Eckhauser. This significant gift will support the team’s efforts at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital, which focus on innovative quality improvement initiatives for neonatal and pediatric patients while delivering the best patient and family education, experience, and congenital heart disease treatment and outcomes.

The gift moves the team’s work forward in three directions, through support for technology, infrastructure, and personnel:

  • The team plans to create quality assessment tools to formalize clinical dashboards that monitor real time patient progress.
  • Computer screens and digital platforms will be added to patient rooms to create family-centered patient rounds and a family-centered patient space.
  • The gift will support an annual Hearst Foundation Visiting Professorship, the hiring a surgical nurse navigator to support the needs of out-of-state families, and offer educational support for non-physician care providers.

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is grateful for the support of the Hearst Foundations and the substantial impact their generosity will make on the children and families we serve. Together, the Foundations and our team will bring increased excellence in the delivery of highly subspecialized care for the most fragile members of our pediatric population, and enhance the experiences of parents and families.
